Retrospective of the 2025 SAWA Convention in Montreal

DAY1

August 29, 2025

The first day of the Sawa Convention was organized around three main segments that beautifully reflected the spirit of cultural exchange, dialogue, and community pride.

Morning – Official Welcome at City Hall
The day began with an official reception at Montréal City Hall, where our delegation was warmly welcomed by city representatives. During this ceremonial moment, our dignitaries had the honor of signing the Golden Book of the City of Montréal, symbolizing friendship, recognition, and the strengthening of ties between our communities.

Afternoon – Visit to the First Nations Museum
In the afternoon, participants visited the First Nations Museum, an enriching experience that highlighted the deep cultural heritage and resilience of Indigenous peoples. The visit provided an opportunity for reflection and meaningful dialogue on the shared values of identity, history, and preservation of cultural traditions.

Evening – Cultural Night Celebration
The day concluded with a vibrant Cultural Night, showcasing the rich artistic expressions of the Sawa community and their hosts. Music, dance, and gastronomy came together in a joyful celebration of unity, diversity, and cultural pride — setting a warm and engaging tone for the rest of the convention.
